Grade 7 Homeroom

Jade Hrdi - 7th Homeroom, 5th-8th Social Studies, 7th-8th English/Language Arts

My Qualifications

I earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism with a writing emphasis and a minor in religious studies from University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh.  Between my sophomore and junior years of college, I joined the US Army Reserve and graduated from the JFK Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  I will finish the requirements for a bachelor's degree in Education from University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh in December 2021.

My Teaching Philosophy

I keep my philosophy simple: There's a book for that.   A big part of my education has focused on disciplinary literacy, meaning teaching students to read materials the way a professional in that field would.  In social studies, we'll read primary sources the way historians do.  I hope to show students how great books can change their lives.

In my classroom, students will not be doing the same thing all the time.  Rather, students will show their learning of material in a way that makes sense for the subject matter and helps them retain information.

Why do I teach at St. Joe's?

I drove by St. Joe's for three years while I worked nearby, and I thought it would be a great fit for my own children someday.  I'm excited about working at St. Joe's because of the small staff with huge experience.  Because we're guided by God, and not just text books or state standards, I know that St. Joe's teaching staff truly works for the best of the students' overall holiness, not just academics.

Fun Facts about Me

I spent five years working for one of the winningest weekly newspapers in Wisconsin, and I've earned writing awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.  I wrote a children's book this spring and am looking for an illustrator.

In 2021, I made a goal to check out at least 365 books from the library for my 2-year-old son.  I met the goal early in July.  The librarians know us pretty well these days!
