Carrie Maccoux - 5K Teacher

My Qualifications

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary / Early Childhood Education with a minor in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse.  I hold Certifications in Orton Gillingham and Early Reading Empowerment.  I also have extensive training and practice in Leveled Literacy Intervention, Guided Reading, Readers and Writers Workshop.

I have spent 20 years in the public schools and most recently taught Kindergarten for six years at another school in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  It was an amazing experience that prepared me to join St. Joe's!

My Teaching Philosophy

It is my role to provide a classroom environment where love is the number one rule.  We become a family trusting in each other to support and care for our faith and academic growth.  Through playful experiences, children are able to realize their potential and fall in love with learning.  Children are immersed in their learning through a thematic approach where content areas are integrated.  Kiddos become creative thinkers while discovering in hands-on, playful ways.  Kindergarten is an amazing adventure.

Why do I teach at St. Joe's?

I have been a member of St. Joseph Parish for 22 years.  I am thrilled to become a part of the school community where I already feel I belong.  I have a true passion for teaching kindergarten and giving children the foundation to become seekers of knowledge as they take pride in their learning.  I enjoy teaching in the parochial schools where I can share my faith.  I love being able to teach virtues and character development through the lens of God.  Children can reflect on every action by asking “What Would Jesus Do?”  We can pray throughout the day for ourselves and others.  I also enjoy sharing the bible stories with children.  The final reason I chose to teach at St. Joes is the small class sizes.  Children are given a tremendous amount of guidance, love and support from me to meet high expectations in playful ways.

Fun Facts about Me

I have been married to my husband for 26 years and have 4 children and 2 adorable English Crème Golden Retrievers.  I enjoy reading and spending time outside in the summer months.  I love to travel to visit my children and attend Marquette Men’s Basketball games.  I love Disney and all things sparkly or red.  Teaching is my passion.
