2nd Grade Class Behavior Plan How the Reward System Works Our reward system is based on teamwork. Each row of seated students has an opportunity to work together to be on task. I also look for the the students to be working together as a whole. Each day I look for many opportunities to compliment the children. When they work as a team, as a community or individually, they receive a magnet on the magnet board. A sample of the magnet board is below. Students are also rewarded for following the school and classroom rules, for academic successes (100's on tests), and kind deeds. I encourage all students to progress in behavior, academics and personal growth. How the Warning System Works At the beginning of every week each student will have four cards of green, yellow, red, and black. When a child breaks a rule, the card in front will be placed behind the other cards, first starting with the green card, following with the yellow card, then the red card and finally the black card. Each color is to act as a reminder to the child; green showing - great (keep up the good work), yellow showing - slow down (think about what you are doing), red showing - stop what your doing (lose one full recess and write a letter to parents describing the behaviors in question), black showing - oh no, I'm in trouble (lose one full recess and a phone call will be made to the parents to discuss the issue). This doesn't happen very often. How the Magnet Board Works The Magnet Board looks similar to the chart below. The numbers represent how many rows of desks are present. I do change the rows frequently so that students are working with different people in their team. When the students in each row work well together, they get a magnet placed in the row. The goal is to get as many magnets as they can in a school week. At the end of the week we tally up the magnets. The students then receive a dollar for each magnet in their row. | 1st | O | O | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2nd | O | O | O | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 3rd | O | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 4th | O | O | O | O | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
How the Money System Works We use fake money that looks real so that the students will have fun earning, counting, exchanging, and spending the money. We tally up the number of magnets from the magnet board and the number of cards remaining from the warning system, then each child receives the corresponding number in dollars. We do this at the end of each week. Their money is saved until the end of the month. How the Classroom Store Works At the end of the month the students can go shopping in the classroom store. They can purchase items such as trinkets and passes. The passes seem to be the favorites. I offer: extra recess time pass, free homework pass, get out of trouble free pass, sit at the teacher's desk pass, unhealthy snack pass, read a book to the class pass, computer pass, piano pass, hold a lovie for the day pass, lunch with the teacher (that's me) and more... I am also happy to accept small items for our store." There is a lot of information in this section of the letter. Please feel free to stop in my room to see how these systems work.
