Matching Funds

Letter to Corporations

Corporate gifting programs are common practice for most companies, large and small.  Many companies will match an employees' contribution to a qualified charity, community organization, or educational institution.  Corporate gifting allows your company tax advantages, while encouraging the employee to become charitable givers themselves.  These programs are in place to build stronger communities for all of us to enjoy.

All company gifting programs are different, their guidelines and procedures will require a small amount of research on your part.  Usually these answers can be found on your company's employee web pages, or by contacting your HR department or Finance department.  If your company has an annual United Way drive, they most likely have some type of "matching gift" program or "grant" offering by simply following their procedure(s).  Thankfully, once the initial approval process is done, it becomes an easily approved annual gift with little effort on the company's or your part.

One caution, companies will not match a gift to a religious organization.  It is critical you are clear and separate that the gift is to an accredited educational institution.  Examples of details you might consider:

  • Gift to "Building Fund for K5-8 facility"
  • Gift to "School Supply Annual Wish List" maybe submit detailed list if required
  • Gift to "Tuition assistance for less fortunate" i.e. Angel Fund
  • Gift for specific needs "Computer lab equipment, gym supplies, desks, etc.."
