Hello from the World of Seventh Graders!
Welcome to the Class of 2008! This year's school theme is "Our Search of God's Treasures," which all of our students will discover in each other and within themselves. We are all treasures in our attitude, academics, acceptance of others, service, compassion and for consistently being the best person we can be. Our subjects studied in the seventh grade homeroom: Religion: Grade 7 focuses on the life, mission, good news, miracles, parables and good works of Jesus, and on developing personal relationships with Him. We study the Mass, the sacraments, the Beatitudes, the Works of Mercy and the examples of the saints who have practiced them. Language Arts: Grammar, syntax, vocabulary, diagramming of sentences, and five to seven forms of writing are taught. Planning, drafting, writing, editing, revision skills are practiced in our weekly Writer's Workshop. Litarary analysis and listening skills are practiced daily with the introduction of a new "poem a day." Literature: Poetry, drama, short stories and excerpts from novels are read and analyzed. A variety of viewpoints, authors, cultural perspectives are experienced. Ten different alternatives to traditional book reports can be used for monthly book reports. Assigned vocabulary lessons from a separate workbook are tested each Friday. Service: Grade 7 students are "Buddies" to Kindergarten students and will be helping them with weekly mass, lunch, good citizenship and seasonal projects. Grade 7 students also provide safety supervision of younger students as Safety Cadets at dismissal each day; Lunch Room services and Friday ice cream sales on a rotating basis; act as altar servers; and are available for service to teachers of primary grades and the parish community.
